Description of the genus

Perennial dwarf plants, tufted, succulent with tuberous roots. Leaves opposite, united at base, spreading, concave above, with whitish dots. Flowers solitary, subsessile, bracteate, yellow, opening after noon. Sepals 5, petals many. Ovary inferior, flattish. Fruit a capsule, valves recurved when expanded; seeds smooth.

Comment: Although 3 different taxa are listed in literature (Setshogo, 2005: 87 and Golding, 2002: 20) there is no further confirmation for any of these taxa.

Worldwide: Nine species native to South Africa.

Botswana: 3 taxa.
