AVONIA (E. Mey. ex Fenzl) G.D. Rowley
Small, perennial herbs. Stipules membranous, silvery and scarious, hiding the minute leaves. Leaves fleshy. Flowers sessile at the ends of branches. Petals 5. Stamens 5-many. Ovary superior. Style filiform, 3-fid at apex or entire. Capsule dehiscing longitudinally into 3-4 valves. Worldwide: 22 species in southern Africa, Yemen and S and E Australia Botswana: 2 taxa. |
