Synonyms:
Common names: Long-awned three-awn (English) Seloka (Setswana)

Status: Native
Description:
This subspecies is characterized by the column of the awns being very long, always more than 35 mm. The column in the specimens occurring in the Flora Zambesiaca area, however, is usually shorter than 35 mm. but exceeding 20 mm. in length. When the areas of subspecies stipitata and subspecies robusta overlap or meet, forms having some characters intermediate between these subspecies are not uncommon. They have characteristics of the panicle of subspecies stipitata but the auricles of their leaves are barbate and the column of the awns does not exceed 20 mm., as in subspecies robusta.
