| Description: |
Annual up to 60 cm high. Raceme 3–15 cm long, gently curved. Sessile spikelet 9–15 mm long, laterally compressed; inferior glume linear, firmly coriaceous with a deeply bifid membranous apex ± as long as the body, 2-keeled above, the keels curving inwards towards the midline below, forming a deep slot between them and obscuring the intercarinal nerves; superior lemma with an awn 4–7 cm long, the column ciliate along the edges of the coils. Pedicelled spikelet 7–15 mm long, ciliate, the inferior glume with a midnerve and 2–3 conspicuous lateral nerves adjacent to each keel. |
