Description:
Robust perennial herb, up to 1.5 m, often forming large clumps. Leaves in a large basal tuft, linear. inflorescence on a long fleshy peduncle, usually unbranched, rarely with short branches at the base. Flowers with stalks joined near the middle, large and showy; tepals white, spreading; anthers long and yellow.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: bowkeri: after J.H. Bowker (1822-1900), South African Naturalist who sent a living plant to Kew Botanic Gardens in England.
