Description:
Terrestrial herb 30-50 cm tall, growing from a chain of mostly subterranean pseudobulbs. Leaves up to 7 forming a fan, linear, 12-30 cm long, present or just appearing at flowering time; basal sheath often spotted purple-brown. Inflorescence laxly several-flowered. Flowers with sepals olive-green to purplish, oblong to lanceolate, 13-16 mm long; petals yellow to yellow-green, oblong-lanceolate, 11.5-12.5 mm long; lip yellow-green with maroon veining, 12-15 mm long, 3-lobed in the apical third; spur more or less cylindric, 3-4.5 mm long, straight or bent forward, blunt and often bilobed at the apex.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: hereroensis: from Hereroland in Namibia, inhabited by the Herero people
Habitat: On rocky outcrops in woodland, among granite boulders and in sandy soils overlying granite rocks.
