Description: |
Hairless aquatic herb with submerged parts covered in clear, slimy mucilage. Leaves floating, more or less circular, c. 7 × 5-7 cm, peltate, green above, reddish-brown to purplish beneath, 12-veined from the apex of the petiole; margin entire; petiole reddish-brown, up to 1 m long depending on the depth of the waster. Flowers solitary on peduncles up to 8 cm long. Petals and sepals 3, similar, purplish or brownish-red. Stamens with slender papillose filaments up to 1 cm long. Carpels narrowly lanceolate-ovoid to ellipsoid up to 7 × 2 mm when ripe, beaked by the persistent stigma. |
