Description:
Medium to large deciduous tree. Thorns strongly hooked, blackish-brown, in pairs just below the nodes. Leaves with 3-5 pairs of pinnae; leaflets in 4-10 pairs per pinna, velvety at least on the veins. Flowers in white spikes. Pods straight, flat with conspicuous veins, 8-12 cm long, apiculate, blackish-brown, dehiscent.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: burkei: named after Botanist and collector Joseph Burke (1812 - 1873), who collected the type in northern South Africa.
