Description:
Multi-stemmed, spreading shrub, usually 1-3 m. Young branchlets conspicuously covered in dense golden hairs; older branches with white lenticels. Spines more or less straight, up to 4 cm long, in pairs at the nodes, often hairy, particularly near the base. Leaves c. 6 × 2 cm with 6-12 pairs of pinnae; leaflets in 6-16 pairs per pinna, densely hairy on the rhachis. Flowers in white spherical heads at the nodes, usually appearing before the leaves. Pods short, somewhat leathery, densely covered in yellowish hairs, indehiscent.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: stuhlmannii: named after Franz Ernst Stuhlmann, one time Acting Governor of Tanganyika and an avid collector of plants.

Worldwide distribution: Kenya, Tanzania, Somalia with a very much separate population, confined to the Shashe-Limpopo area of eastern Botswana, southern Zimbabwe and northern South Africa.
