Description:
Medium-sized deciduous tree. All parts hairless. Leaves bipinnate with 2-5 pairs of pinnae; leaflets sub-opposite, oblong to ovate, c. 2 × 3 cm; petiole without a gland. Flowers in 1-2 axillary spikes, white, fading to yellow; stamens yellow. Pods very characteristic, 4-sided, up to 17 × 3.5 cm, dark glossy brown.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: andongensis: named after Pungo Andongo in Angola where the type specimen was collected.
Habitat: In deciduous woodland
Flowering time:Sep - Oct
Worldwide distribution: Widespread in tropical Africa.
