Erect branched annual or rarely perennial herb, up to 1·75 m tall, woody at the base, densely and shortly whitish, greenish-white, greyish-yellow or pale greyish-green velvety most parts; stems wiry, purplish-grey to brownish, grooved, becoming hairless when older. Leaves usually oblong or ovate-oblong to broadly elliptic, up to 7 cm long, shortly and densely hairy on both surfaces or sometimes becoming hairless above, veins usually more or less impressed above and prominent beneath; margin distinctly and sometimes rather coarsely serrate; petiole 5-25 mm long. Flowers solitary, axillary, white to pale yellow, occasionally golden yellow on pedicels 1·5–7 cm long. Mericarps usually 8–10, c. 6 mm long, brown, not awned, usually stellate-hairy at least in the upper part, laterally conspicuously reticulate with usually yellowish slightly raised ridges. Seeds ovoid, brown, hairless except for the area around the hilum. |
