Description:
Perennial herb with annual, often prostrate sparsely hairy shoots from a woody rootstock. Leaves, up to 10 × 6 cm, broadly elliptic in outline, varying from not lobed to deeply 3-5-lobed with linear to elliptic lobes, central lobe often much longer than lateral lobes, mostly hairless with simple or stellate hairs on the veins; margin from almost entire to coarsely toothed; petiole up to 3-15 mm long. Flowers solitary, axillary, up to 5 cm in diameter, white to pale yellow. Epicalyx of 7-9 bracts, 3.5-6 mm long, linear. Calyx up to 18 mm long; lobes narrowly lanceolate to elliptic, up to 15 × 3.5 mm long, minutely velvety and sparsely hairy. Fruit a ellipsoid capsule, 18 × 12 mm, minutely velvety.
