Description: |
Erect perennial herb, up to c. 1 m tall. Stems branching mostly near the base, densely covered in stelate, somewhat irritant hairs. Leaves, up to 10 × 9 cm, ovate to almost round in outline, shallowy or obscurely 3-lobed, sometimes unlobed, stellate pubescent above, densely stellate-tomentose below; base cordate; margin serrate-crenate; petiole up to 8 cm long. Flowers solitary, axillary, up to 5 cm in diameter, together often forming racemes on the leafless ends of the stems, yellow, usually without a dark centre. Epicalyx of 5 bracts, 16 × 3 mm, linear-lanceolate. Calyx 5-6 mm long, normally shorter than the epicalyx; lobes narrowly triangular with a prominent central vein. Fruit a subspherical or broadly ellipsoid capsule, c. 15 mm long. |
