Description: |
Perennial herb with annual stems, growing from a cylindric vertical tuber. Stem 1-several, erect or procumbent, usually unbranched, sometimes branching near the base, up to 1 m tall, densely pubescent with spreading white or rusty hairs. Leaves opposite, spreading, shortly petiolate, linear to narrowly lanceolate or lanceolate to ovate, up to 16 × 4 cm, with slightly rough spreading white or rusty hairs on both surfaces; margin with minute crisped or rough hairs. Inflorescences terminal and extra-axillary, 1-7-flowered, scented erect umbels. Corolla spreading to broadly campanulate, reddish-brown and densely pubescent outside, white, cream or pale green with or without purple-brown markings, hairless or minutely papillate inside. Lobes up to 18 × 13 mm, broadly ovate. Corona lobes arising from the base of the staminal column, basal part swollen with 2 erect teeth, apical part ligulate or slightly spathulate, up to c. 10 mm long, erect or curved in over the staminal column. Follicle erect on a twisted pedicel, up to 12 × 3 cm, fusiform, usually not inflated, with 6 narrow longitudinal ridges. |
