Description: |
Succulent perennial with stems up to 15 cm long, often forming several clumps connected by horizontal rhizomes. Inflorescences 2-6 per stem, situated towards the apex. Flowers mostly 1-3 per inflorescence, sometimes more, opening in succession or simultaneously, strongly and unpleasantly smelling. Corolla 30-45 mm in diameter, very deeply and narrowly lobed, smooth and pale green outside, finely papillate and variably coloured, usually with lobes paler than centre, yellow-green, yellow, red or brown with centre red or brown. Corona c. 6 mm tall with outer lobes 1-2 mm long, ascending, deeply bifid, red to purple-brown; inner lobes 4-5 mm long appressed to the backs of the anthers and then erect and sometimes diverging at the apices, reddish near the base and yellow above. |
