Description:
Perennial herb up to 50 cm tall, rarely taller, with 1-several hairy stems growing from a taproot. Leaves mostly crowded at the base but extending along the stems, oblong-oblanceolate in outline, up to 14 cm long, with rounded to triangular lobes along the sides, pubescent on both surfaces and with sessile glands but sometimes becoming hairless; shortly petiolate or sessile in the upper leaves. Flowers in 8-20 well-spaced 4-8-flowered clusters; bract ovate-acumintae, 3-6 mm long; Calyx 5-8 mm long with 3 teeth above, 1-1.5 mm long and 2 teeth below, 2-3 mm long. Corolla blue to mauve or rarely white, 7-14 mm long; upper lip straight and lower lip as long or slightly longer than upper.

Derivation of specific name: runcinata: runcinate; referring to the leaves having saw-toothed divisions directed away from the apex.
Habitat: In grassy places, often on heavy, damp soils or in disturbed areas.

Worldwide distribution: Western Zimbabwe, Southeastern Botswana and South Africa.
