Description:
Perennial herb with bristly-hairy trailing stems up to 60 cm long growing from a taproot. Leaves in clusters on dwarf shoots along otherwise bare stems, linear-lanceolate or narrowly elliptic, up to 6 cm long with long glossy, bristly hairs,particularly on the midrib and margin. Flowers mauve-blue, 2-3.5 cm long, protruding from the leaf clusters.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: setosa: bristly-hairy or setose.
Habitat: In black, clay soils at edges of pans and on termitaria or in deep sand in open grassland
Flowering time:Jan - Apr
Worldwide distribution: Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia and South Africa.
