Description:
Straggling perennial herb, branching from the base into simple stems, 20-60 cm long. Most parts scabridulous, particularly when young. Leaves opposite or in whorls of 3, linear to linear-lanceolate; petioles undeveloped or absent. Flowers usually solitary, borne at the nodes on pedicels up to 3 cm long. Corolla white, sometimes tinged pink or purple. Capsule depressed subspherical, 2-3 mm long, beaked.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: lancifolia: with lance-shaped (lanceolate) leaves.
Habitat: In moist or aquatic habitats
Flowering time:
Worldwide distribution: Throughout tropical Africa to northern South Africa. Also in Madagascar.
