Description:
Glabrous, multi-stemmed, annual or short-lived perennial herb. Leaves variable, linear to elliptic, ovate or spathulate, 3-15 mm long, rather fleshy, sessile or shortly petiolate; margin entire or minutely toothed. Flowers in upper leaf axils. Corolla 2.5-5 mm long, white to blue, pink or purple; lower three lobes with a crescent-shaped gland at the base.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: sonderiana: after Otto Wilhelm Sonder (1812-1881), German botanist, apothecary and co-author of Flora Capensis.
Habitat: In wet places, on riverbanks and edges of swamps and pools
Flowering time:
Worldwide distribution: Kenya, Tanzania, Angola, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and South Africa.
