Description: |
Robust erect perennial herb with annual stems, unbranched except in the inflorescence,, up to 3 m tall, growing from a large woody rootstock. Lower leaves petiolate, subsessile higher on the stem. Leaves oblong-elliptic to oblanceolate, becoming lanceolate in uppermost leaves; margin coarsely serrate, mostly glabrescent. Capitula numerous in small clusters, terminal on the branches, purple-blue. See var. laxa for comparison. |
