Description: |
Perennial herb with prostrate stems growing from a succulent taproot. Leaves narrowly ovate, up to 6.5 cm long, pinnately lobed with 5 main lobes. Flowers purple with yellow inside throat. Fruit with 4 rows of curved arms bearing recurved spines, longest arms 2-5 times the width of the body of the capsule; total diameter of fruit up to 15 cm. |

Notes: | This subspecies is the common taxon in Botswana. It differs from subsp. transvaalense by the narrower, more divided leaves and the fruit with more and longer arms. |
